From Nurse to Period Advocate

Our founder, Rachel, is not only the heart behind Code Red Period Products, but also an ex nurse. She understands both the medical and personal challenges that can come with menstruation, especially for young people. Rachel’s journey with her period started at just 11 years old, in a world where conversations about periods were hushed, and medical support was hard to come by. Like many teens, she faced painful periods, heavy bleeding, and a lack of resources or education to help her manage.

Despite constant trips to doctors and A&E, her severe period pain was dismissed as “normal” for over a decade. It wasn’t until much later that Rachel was diagnosed with endometriosis, fibroids, and adenomyosis. Her experience missing school, battling crippling pain, and the delay in getting a proper diagnosis inspired her to take action and create a company that would help teens avoid the same struggles.

At Code Red Period Products, we offer more than just pads – we provide complete solutions. Our Period Starter Kits are designed specifically for teens, giving them everything they need to manage their first period. Each Period Starter Kit includes practical items like hot water bottles, alongside educational materials that explain the menstrual cycle, how to track periods, and ways to manage period pain.

But we go beyond products. Our work extends into schools, educating students, staff, and healthcare professionals about menstrual health through workshops and conferences. We’re working to normalise periods and make sure teens have safe, supportive environments in which to manage their cycles, both at home and at school. Our Period Pass initiative helps ensure teens have discreet, unrestricted access to bathrooms during class time to manage their periods without hassle or embarrassment.

We collaborate with schools to deliver vital education on periods, normalising the conversation and ensuring teachers understand how to support students who may struggle with heavy bleeding or period pain. Our workshops cover topics like menstrual health, period pain, and how to identify symptoms of conditions like endometriosis, helping teens know when to seek medical advice.

I’m Rachel, the founder, an ex nurse, and a fierce advocate for menstrual health. My journey with periods has been anything but ordinary, and it's the reason I started Code Red Period Products.

I got my first period at just 11, long before I had the education or tools to fully understand what was happening to my body. From the start, my periods were excruciating. I endured intense pain, constant vomiting, and missed so much school that I ended up in hospital on multiple occasion for over 10 years, I was given powerful pain medications but no real answers.

As time went on, I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis, fibroids, and adenomyosis—conditions that affected my quality of life in ways I never imagined. I’ve been through 11 surgeries, and as I write this, I’m awaiting a hysterectomy. My story is not unique; several of my family members have experienced similar struggles, with some also needing hysterectomies.

This personal journey showed me how broken the system can be for people with periods. I wanted to ensure that no young person would have to navigate menstruation without the knowledge, support, and resources they deserve. That’s why I created Code Red Period Products—to provide affordable, evidence-based period products and educational tools for all menstruators.

We specialise in helping teens feel confident and prepared for their first period, offering unique starter kits that come with everything from reusable pads to fun storybooks. Our mission goes beyond selling products; we conduct workshops in schools, educating teens, parents, teachers, and even healthcare professionals.
